Description: The Burnt Island Leading Lights were established in 1915 to aid fishermen in navigating the harbor. These range lights consisted of two square, pyramidal wooden towers painted with two red and two white horizontal bands. The purpose of range lights is to create a visual alignment that helps mariners determine a safe course through a channel or harbor. In the case of the Burnt Island Leading Lights, the two towers provided a range that guided fishermen towards the entrance of the harbor. Each tower had a white lantern at the top, which displayed a fixed red light. This light served as a navigational aid, especially during nighttime or low visibility conditions.
