Description: The idea for the memorial originated from Ray Hildebrandt, a retired Carlisle Township Fire Chief and a U.S. Army veteran, along with a dedicated team of volunteers. They tirelessly fundraised for six years to bring this vision to life. The memorial, crafted from black granite, bears the inscription: "So that we may continue to live free because of those men and women who fought for that freedom. We shall honor those who serve now and in our future for we have learned that freedom is not free." This tribute extends to veterans of all branches of the U.S. military. In the mission statement of the memorial, Hildebrandt noted that despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in their fundraising efforts, they ultimately triumphed after six years of perseverance.
