Featured on the rock are poignant portraits of the late Frank Lewis Glick, the first Marshall County casualty of World War I; the late Adm. Jack Fletcher, a celebrated World War II hero and Marshalltown native known for his extraordinary exploits; Harry C. "Sonny" Phipps, the first Marshall County casualty of the Korean War; the late Darwin Judge, who tragically lost his life during the Vietnam War; and the late Scott Nisely, who made the ultimate sacrifice during the War on Terror. This powerful monument stands proudly at the entrance to the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown, serving as a solemn reminder of the tremendous price of freedom and the unwavering courage of those who defended it. The names and stories of these brave individuals will forever be etched in the heart of the community, embodying the spirit of honor, sacrifice, and remembrance for generations to come.
