Description: The Winnebago County Freedom Rock display in Lake Mills is a captivating sight, drawing attention with its grand flag display, accompanied by several statues and a tank, all situated in the town's Arlington Park. The front of the rock portrays a poignant scene of soldiers carrying a wounded comrade off the battlefield, while the background features a silhouette of the iconic flag-raising. On the north side of the rock, a tribute is paid to Winnebago County's native son, Terry Branstad, Iowa and the United States' longest-serving Governor, who was drafted into the Army and served in the military police. The east side of the rock depicts "Mr. Tank" Brigadier General Joseph Colby, who was born in Lake Mills and played a significant role in designing various tanks such as the Grant, Lee, M-4 Sherman, Chaffee, Walker, Bulldog, Hellcat, Pershing, and Patton. In his honor, a Sherman Tank is displayed in Arlington Park.
