Description: At the forefront of the Jones County Freedom Rock, you'll find a touching tribute to eleven distinguished members of our military. On the flip side of the rock, you'll encounter a familiar face that many will recognize – the renowned artist Grant Wood. Prior to achieving fame, Wood served in the Army during World War 1. Additionally, the rock features an emblematic reference to Military Highway 1, also known as Dillon's Furrow, representing the first federally funded highway constructed west of the Mississippi River. You can find this meaningful monument in the heart of Stone City, adjacent to the General Store. The Jones County Freedom Rock stands as a powerful symbol of appreciation for those who have served in the military, while also commemorating the artistic legacy of Grant Wood and the historical significance of the Military Highway 1.
