The mansion was distinguished by its unique architectural feature of a colonnade of 24 Ionic columns that encircled the house, making it one of the most iconic antebellum homes in the South. The plantation played a significant role in the region's agricultural economy, primarily through cotton production, and was also a site of significant social and cultural activity. Unfortunately, the mansion was destroyed by fire in 1966, leaving only the columns standing as a haunting reminder of its former grandeur.
