Description: The Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel (DSTT) is a vital public transportation corridor in Seattle, Washington, that serves as a key conduit for both buses and light rail trains. Opened in 1990, the tunnel spans approximately 1.3 miles and includes five underground stations: Westlake, University Street, Pioneer Square, International District/Chinatown, and Convention Place (the latter of which has since been closed). Initially designed to accommodate dual-mode buses, the tunnel was later retrofitted to support Sound Transit's Link light rail service, which began operating in 2009. The DSTT significantly enhances the efficiency and connectivity of Seattle's transit system by providing a dedicated, traffic-free route through the heart of the city, thereby reducing travel times and improving reliability for commuters.
