Description: The mural located at the southwest corner of West Vandalia and South Main streets in downtown Edwardsville has been completed. The artwork was skillfully created by artist Daniel Ricketts from St. Louis Sign & Mural. This particular mural is part of an exciting new Route 66 project funded by the Great Rivers & Routes Tourism Bureau through a generous $919,000 grant. The Route 66 Mural Program is an integral part of the Tourism Bureau's comprehensive product development plan for the upcoming 100th anniversary celebration of Route 66 in 2026. The project aims to add vibrancy and cultural significance to the historic highway by displaying 12 distinct murals throughout various cities along the iconic route. Each of the 12 murals will have a similar layout, but Ricketts will add his signature touch to each one, ensuring that they also uniquely highlight the specific city where they are located. The completed mural in Edwardsville is just the beginning, with Ricketts slated to paint the remaining 10 murals in cities including East St. Louis, Hamel, Granite City, Livingston, Staunton, Carlinville, Girard, Gillespie, Virden, and Litchfield.
