Description: San Miguel Mission, also known as San Miguel Chapel, is a historic church located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It is often cited as the oldest church in the United States, with its original adobe structure dating back to around 1610, during the Spanish colonial period. The chapel was built by Tlaxcalan Indians under the direction of Franciscan friars. Over the centuries, it has undergone several restorations and modifications, but it still retains its historical and architectural significance. The thick adobe walls, wooden beams, and simple yet beautiful design reflect the early Spanish colonial style. Inside San Miguel Mission, visitors can see the original altar screen, which dates back to 1798, and various religious artifacts. The church also houses a notable bell, believed to have been cast in Spain in 1356 and brought to the New World in the 17th century.
