Description: Val-Jalbert, situated in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec, Canada, occupies a location 8 km (5 mi) northwest of Chambord town. Its origins date back to 1901 when it was established, and its fortunes soared due to the prosperous pulp mill established by Damase Jalbert near the majestic Ouiatchouan Falls. However, this prosperity was fleeting, as the abrupt shuttering of the mill in 1927 triggered the exodus of the entire village. In 1960, it was transformed into a park. With an impressive assortment of over 70 original abandoned structures, Val-Jalbert stands out as widely acclaimed as the best-preserved ghost town in Canada. Situated within the boundaries of both Chambord and Roberval municipalities, the founding of Val-Jalbert was orchestrated by Damase Jalbert from Lac-Bouchette in 1901, when he constructed a pulp and paper mill to meet the surging demand for newsprint in Britain and America.
