Description: The Peace Bridge serves as a pedestrian and cyclist bridge that spans the Bow River in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This impressive architectural marvel, crafted by renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, officially opened its paths for use on March 24, 2012. Initiated by The City of Calgary, the bridge was meticulously constructed to create a vital linkage between the southern Bow River pathway and Downtown Calgary on one side, and the northern Bow River pathway and the Sunnyside community on the other. This strategic connection was thoughtfully designed to cater to the growing number of individuals who commute to and from work, as well as those who make use of Calgary's expansive network of pathways. Remarkably, the Peace Bridge sees a daily footfall of approximately 6000 people, attesting to its vital role in facilitating urban mobility. Its exceptional design and functionality propelled it to secure positions among the top 10 architectural projects of 2012, as well as ranking among the top 10 public spaces of the same year. The journey leading to the creation of this bridge commenced on September 8, 2008, when Calgary City Council endorsed report LPT2008-49. This report allocated a budget of $25 million for the Pedestrian Gateways project, encompassing the realization of two bridges across the Bow River: one situated west of Prince's Island Park and the other at the western end of St. George's Island. Following this decision, the City Administration embarked on the task of designing and constructing one of the envisioned bridges, while also formulating a concept design for the second one.
