Description: Travelling Light stands as a courageous and inventive work of art, meticulously crafted to encapsulate the vibrant momentum of Calgary's urban pulse while etching an enduring impression upon all who encounter it. This sculptural marvel, spanning an impressive 17 meters, seamlessly integrates into the existing line of street lamps, offering an entrancing portal into the surrounding landscape and its surroundings. When viewed from a distance, it emerges as an expansive window, framing the vast stretches of the landscape, and bestowing the 96th Ave NE interchange with an unmistakable identity, both from afar and in close proximity. This location forms a complex crossroads, catering to an array of diverse users converging with their distinct perspectives and rates of motion. With the aim of captivating all observers with visual allure and establishing a distinct persona for the bridge, the artists devised a monumental sculptural form marked by clarity and simplicity, setting it apart through its distinctive color against the bridge and the landscape. Adopting the form of a ring, this sculpture symbolizes movement's quintessential icon, the wheel. The lamp posts' graceful arches ascend from the zenith, firmly anchoring the sculpture while concurrently invoking the essence of perpetual motion. This dual symbolism mirrors the bridge's inherent nature – a stationary yet unifying juncture serving the purpose of transit and journey. Observers are invited to interpret the lamp post arches as reminiscent of high-wheeler handlebars, the silhouette of a bird poised for flight, or even the delicate antennae of a butterfly. The vibrant hue pays homage to the ever-present sky that graces the backdrop, thereby creating a vivid contrast with the bridge's functional elements, thus underscoring a splendid harmony between art and structure.
