Description: The original mosaic, created 40 years ago to look like a map of Kentucky, underwent a restoration process in September 2019. Over time, a chemical reaction between the silver and glue used in the original construction caused some pieces of the mural to break and fall off, prompting the need for restoration. However, the restoration process faced several challenges. Funding and winter weather caused initial delays, and the COVID-19 pandemic further impacted the restoration efforts. The pandemic prevented the artist or the organizers from accepting volunteers to assist in placing, lifting, and gluing the pieces of glass back together. Art restorations can be intricate and time-consuming, requiring specialized skills and attention to detail. Delays due to external factors like funding, weather, and unforeseen circumstances can prolong the restoration process.
