Description: Florence Irene Ford, born in 1861 in Natchez, Mississippi, was a young girl whose life was tragically cut short at the age of 10 due to yellow fever. Her mother, Ellen, was deeply affected by her untimely death and took extraordinary measures to remain close to her daughter even in death. Ellen had a special coffin constructed with a glass window at the head and a set of stairs leading down to the coffin, allowing her to visit and comfort Florence during storms, which had always frightened the young girl. This unique and poignant gravesite, located in the Natchez City Cemetery, continues to draw visitors and serves as a testament to a mother's enduring love and the lengths she went to provide solace to her child.
