Description: The Rose Island Lighthouse is located on Rose Island in Narragansett Bay, near Newport, Rhode Island. The original lighthouse was a wooden structure, but it was replaced with the current stone and brick tower in 1912. The Rose Island Lighthouse served as an active aid to navigation until it was decommissioned in 1971. After its decommissioning, the lighthouse fell into disrepair, but it was later restored and transformed into a non-profit historic site and museum.
