Description: In the summer of 1998, a collaborative effort brought students from Yantai, Tijuana, Vladivostok, and San Diego together at the edge of San Diego's Shelter Island. Over a span of four weeks, they jointly envisioned and built a gateway park known as the "Pearl of the Pacific." This project was made possible not only through the contributions of the international architecture students but also with the generous involvement of local community members, volunteer contractors, sub-contractors, artisans, and artists.
