Description: Roebling’s Delaware Aqueduct, also known as the Roebling Bridge, is a historic suspension bridge spanning the Delaware River between Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania, and Minisink Ford, New York. Designed by John A. Roebling, the engineer renowned for his later work on the Brooklyn Bridge, this aqueduct was completed in 1848 and originally served as a canal aqueduct for the Delaware and Hudson Canal, facilitating the transport of coal and other goods. The structure is notable for its innovative use of wrought iron cables and wooden planking, which were pioneering at the time. Today, it stands as the oldest existing wire suspension bridge in the United States and has been repurposed as a one-lane vehicular bridge, while also serving as a significant historical landmark and a testament to 19th-century engineering prowess.
