Description: In the early 1940s, hundreds of Army fighter pilots from the 10th Fighter Squadron made a stop at the Zephyrhills Army Airfield before heading off to serve in World War II. Following the conclusion of the war, the airfield was generously donated to the city. While the barracks where these pilots resided have since been demolished, the infirmary building stands as the sole surviving structure from that era. Between 1977 and 2001, grants from both the state and the city facilitated the restoration and preservation of this historic building. Today, it serves as the home of the Zephyrhills Museum of Military History, where cherished original memorabilia from various conflicts, including the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Middle East War, are proudly displayed. The museum also hosts special exhibitions such as "Women in the Military," "The Events of 9/11," and the rich history of the 10th Fighter Squadron of Zephyrhills. Over time, the museum's collection has expanded to encompass artifacts and records from earlier and more recent conflicts, including the Civil War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the tragedies of 9/11, and the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
