Description: Many years ago, in the late 1700s, this small island was once home to the Harrisburg Plantation, a thriving estate of that era. However, the entire plantation, or whatever remained of it, became submerged beneath the waters due to a dam construction project in the 1950s. In an effort to preserve the cemetery and out of respect for the deceased (and without consent from the descendants of the Harrisburg Plantation), a small island was intentionally formed from the cemetery grounds. This island was spared from sharing the same watery fate as the rest of the land. Today, this historic site is open to the public for visitation, but access requires the use of a boat.
