Description: During the late 1930s, the construction of the Chapel on the Dunes was orchestrated by Aline Carter, an accomplished author, astronomer, artist, and esteemed Poet Laureate. Aline Carter's fervor for education and her local community was evident as she enthusiastically imparted her wisdom to young residents. To foster camaraderie, she arranged delightful cake and ice cream socials following Sunday School sessions, all within the serene walls of the chapel. Perched atop one of Port Aransas' loftiest vantage points, the chapel commands panoramic vistas of the boundless ocean. Its exterior is already a captivating sight, but in 1972, artist John Patrick Cobb took to the task of adorning the interior with captivating murals, thereby enhancing its allure. These murals, brimming with biblical motifs, continue to evoke wonderment as one steps through the entrance. The north wall portrays scenes from the New Testament, while the south wall masterfully captures tales from the Old Testament. The fervency of Aline Carter's faith is palpable, enveloping all who grace the threshold of the Chapel on the Dunes. The sanctuary's legacy is preserved in the hands of Carter's kin, a testament to her enduring devotion and enduring familial ties.
