Description: In 1944, the Santa Fe Railway acquired locomotive number 2926. This locomotive was not only the largest of its kind but also boasted cutting-edge technology for its time. AT&SF 2926 was a regular sight, blazing through passenger routes at speeds of up to 100 mph, connecting Kansas City, Albuquerque, and San Diego with efficient service. However, as the 1950s rolled in, the era of diesel engines began, leading to the retirement of the 2926 from active service. It found a new home on public display in Albuquerque's Coronado Park. Fast forward to two decades ago, a group of dedicated volunteers initiated a restoration project for the 2926. With an astounding 170,000 hours of volunteer labor and a substantial $3 million in donations, this remarkable locomotive is poised to make a triumphant return to the rails once again.
