Description: The Cape Elizabeth Light East Tower, also known as the Two Lights East Tower, is one of the two lighthouses that make up the Two Lights in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Situated on the rocky coastline overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this historic lighthouse has been guiding ships since its construction in 1828. The Cape Elizabeth Light East Tower is a cylindrical tower made of granite, standing about 67 feet (20 meters) tall. Originally equipped with oil lamps, it transitioned to electric lighting in 1958. The lighthouse emits a white light that flashes every 10 seconds and has a range of about 17 nautical miles. The lighthouse was automated in 1963, which meant that the need for lighthouse keepers to live on-site was eliminated. The tower is not open for public tours, but visitors can appreciate its beauty and historical significance from the surrounding area. The Two Lights, with the East Tower and the nearby Cape Elizabeth Light West Tower, create an iconic scene and have become popular subjects for photographs and paintings due to their picturesque location on the rugged Maine coast.
