Description: The Cape Elizabeth Light West Tower, also known as the Two Lights West Tower, is the companion lighthouse to the Cape Elizabeth Light East Tower in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. These lighthouses are collectively known as the Two Lights and are situated along the rugged coastline overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The Cape Elizabeth Light West Tower was built in 1874 to complement the existing East Tower. It is a square tower made of granite, standing approximately 67 feet (20 meters) tall. Like its counterpart, the West Tower was originally equipped with oil lamps but transitioned to electric lighting in 1958. It emits a white light that flashes every 10 seconds, with a range of about 17 nautical miles. Similar to the East Tower, the Cape Elizabeth Light West Tower became automated in 1963, and lighthouse keepers were no longer needed on-site. While the interior of the tower is not open to the public, visitors can admire its picturesque beauty and historical significance from the surrounding area. The Two Lights, including the West Tower, offer a captivating scene and have become popular subjects for photographers and artists due to their scenic location on the Maine coast. The surrounding coastline provides excellent viewpoints to appreciate the lighthouses and their striking presence against the backdrop of the ocean.
