Description: Strolling through Yellowknife's Old Town, you'll undoubtedly be captivated by a remarkable large-scale public artwork adorning an expansive rock surface – this is McAvoy Rock. The artwork and sculptures are integral components of a cross-cultural initiative spearheaded by the Federation Franco-Tenoise. The project's inception dates back to 1999 when it gave rise to a marble sculpture, a collaborative effort among local Yellowknife artist Sonny MacDonald, Dene carver John Sabourin, Eli Nasogaluak from Tuktoyaktuk, and Armand Vaillancourt from Montreal. This marble masterpiece now resides as a permanent exhibit within the Great Hall of the Legislative Assembly. Additionally, a bronze replica of the sculpture is showcased at the base of McAvoy Rock.
