Description: The Neal Lane Bridge, also referred to as the South Myrtle Creek Bridge near Myrtle Creek, boasts two notable distinctions: it ranks among Oregon's shortest covered bridges and stands as the sole roofed span in the state utilizing a kingpost truss design. This wooden bridge measures a mere 42 feet in length, and its inclusion of narrow windows creates the illusion of an even shorter structure. It spans over Myrtle Creek, a stream vital for irrigation purposes. Passersby will observe its crosswise plank flooring, a solitary window on each side, a metal roof, and a posted weight limit of 5 tons. Interestingly, one local resident, who claimed to have worked on the bridge in 1939, contested the officially recorded construction date of 1929. The site in Myrtle Creek has a rich history, with its origins dating back to 1851. In 1862, it was purchased by John Hall, who went on to establish the town in 1865. The name "Myrtle Creek" was chosen due to the presence of nearby groves of Oregon Myrtle trees, characterized by their strong camphor scent.
