Description: Adams General Store was established by Confederate Captain Robert Watkins Adams upon his return from serving in the American Civil War. After being wounded and captured at Gettysburg, he found himself unable to return to farming due to his injuries. It took him approximately two years to journey back home on foot, and he opened the store around 1866-1867. Today, the space has been transformed into Suwannee Hardware & Feed Store, where you can find many of the same items that customers would have encountered in 1893, along with a selection of local art, crafts, and intriguing curiosities. The grounds, formerly utilized as a cotton warehouse, have been revitalized once more as a hub of commercial activity.
