OP Notes: This place is a MUST SEE if in the area!!! It’s a bit of a hike but all gravel flat ground from the east side. The hike from the parking lot, through the tunnel, and back to the parking lot is about 2.25 miles. A good leg stretcher after riding for a good while. And make sure to dress warm for the tunnel, bring a good flashlight with extra batteries, and water!

Description: The Blue Ridge Tunnel, located in Afton, Virginia, is a historic railroad tunnel that was completed in 1858 and designed by French engineer Claudius Crozet. At the time of its completion, it was one of the longest tunnels in the U.S., stretching nearly a mile through the Blue Ridge Mountains. After being abandoned for rail use in the 1940s, the tunnel was restored and opened to the public as a hiking and biking trail. The Blue Ridge Tunnel offers a unique and fascinating experience, with its dark, cool passageway and beautiful surrounding trails that lead through scenic areas of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It's a popular spot for history buffs, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone looking to explore a significant piece of engineering history while enjoying the natural beauty of Virginia.
