OP Notes: Wiarton Willy is an albino groundhog weather prognosticator, similar to Punxsatawny Phil. He has been a staple in Wiarton since the mid 1950's. In 1996, the incumbent rodent passed away without an immediate heir, so the town held a funeral on February 2nd instead. The memorial celebrates all of the Wiarton Willys through the years.

Description: The Wiarton Willie Statue is located in Wiarton, Ontario, and commemorates the town’s famous albino groundhog, Wiarton Willie, who is central to the annual Groundhog Day predictions. Each year, Willie is tasked with predicting the arrival of spring on February 2nd, making this quirky tradition a key part of the town’s identity. The statue serves as a popular attraction for both locals and visitors, celebrating Wiarton’s claim to fame and the long-standing festivities surrounding its beloved groundhog.
